He grabbed his phone, his fingers fumbling with the screen. He needed to document this, to make sure there was proof. The falling tree was a disaster, a disaster! The thought slammed into him, almost physically. He began to pace back and forth, the phone shaking in his grasp.

His neighbor's tree was on his property. His precious, perfectly manicured lawn was ruined. He saw his savings, his retirement, his whole life flash before his eyes. He thought of his new riding lawnmower, the one he had just bought on credit.

He stopped, his breath coming in short, sharp bursts. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to laugh, a wild, uncontrolled sound bubbling up from deep within him. He covered his mouth to stifle it, then began to pace again.
