The realtor’s sunny disposition, usually so infectious, now felt like a cruel joke. The beautiful kitchen, the new appliances – all a sham, hiding the darkness that had seeped into the walls. My stomach churned. The sunlight, once welcome, now seemed to expose every shadow, every corner.

I fumbled for the door handle, my hands trembling. A primal urge to flee consumed me. I spun around, wanting to run, to escape this house, to escape the knowledge.

My head spun, and my vision blurred. I had to get out.
