The words on the screen swam before her eyes. Every detail, every observation, every hidden thought – all laid bare. The woman in the novel was her, but… not. A twisted, embellished version. She felt an overwhelming need to get away, to be anywhere but here.

She gripped the desk tightly, the wood digging into her palms. Her vision blurred, and the room began to spin. Her throat felt tight, and she couldn't seem to swallow.

He would be home any minute. She scrambled to her feet, knocking her chair over. She had to get out, had to…she didn’t even know what she had to do. The front door was suddenly a beacon of escape.
