Gemotions

The dial tone echoed in Daniel's ear. He was supposed to have heard back from the job within the hour. He glanced at the clock for what felt like the hundredth time. He paced his small apartment. His phone buzzed, and he grabbed it, heart leaping with a flicker of hope. He squinted at the screen: a message from his ex. "Just checking in, hope you're doing okay?" He groaned, deleting the message and composing a short, clipped text to the hiring manager. "Have you made a decision yet?" He considered, briefly, the irony.
