The coffee shop was packed. Maya tapped her foot, the repetitive motion a telltale sign of her inner state. The line crawled forward at a glacial pace. She had already missed the opening bell for the Zoom meeting she needed to be in. She pulled out her phone, intending to text her boss, informing him of the delay. She typed "Running late, stuck in line..." and hit send, but the message went to her younger brother. She huffed, deleted the message, and took a deep breath. She pictured the smug grin on his face. She’d explain it later.
