The elevator lights flickered, casting long shadows that danced on the walls. Emily tapped her foot. She had a job interview that she couldn't afford to miss. This was the worst possible scenario.

She sighed loudly, the sound echoing in the enclosed space. She kept glancing at the elevator buttons as if she thought they were the source of her problem. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but to no avail.

She pulled at her skirt, smoothing out imaginary wrinkles. Her stomach was twisting into knots. She needed this job. She began to rapidly press the emergency button, the action stemming from pure frustration. She felt like she was trapped in a nightmare.
