The minutes dragged by like molasses. David couldn’t focus on the spreadsheet in front of him. His leg bounced, a nervous tremor that he couldn’t seem to control. The internal clock was ticking.

He walked to the window, gazing out at the city below, but the view offered no distraction. He turned back to his desk, grabbing a pen and clicking it open and closed, open and closed.

He picked up the phone. Should he call? No, that would seem too... eager. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. He needed something to do, some action.
