“Just… breathe,” I muttered, staring at my reflection in the darkened computer screen. The fluorescent lights seemed to mock me, casting harsh shadows under my eyes. It’s been ages since I applied for this promotion.

I checked my email again. Empty. Another deep breath. I wanted to scream, to run in circles. The air in my office felt thick and suffocating.

I opened a file and closed it. I couldn't focus. This interminable waiting was unbearable. I needed to move, to do something, anything to distract myself from this slow torture.
