The attic air was thick with dust and forgotten memories. He’d been searching for a particular photograph when he came across the old, unopened letter. He stared at it, his throat suddenly dry. He'd been looking forward to his fishing trip. He ran a hand through his hair, his pulse quickening.

He read the words, his initial anger quickly replaced by a heavy, profound sadness. He sighed, the sound echoing in the silent space. The letter felt heavy in his hand. He tossed it back into the dusty box, slamming the lid shut. He had no time for this. He needed the boat.
