Gemotions

The hammering started before seven. Sarah pulled the covers over her head, wishing she’d stayed at her boyfriend’s. She could feel the vibrations through the mattress. Whatever. Her neighbor, Mr. Henderson, wanted a fence. It had been in the works for weeks. She’d signed the permit, or whatever paperwork it was, when he'd asked. Why not? It wasn’t like she cared.

The sound, though, was another matter. She shoved a pillow against her ear. It did little good. She supposed it was going to be one of those days where she felt like a wet sock.

She finally dragged herself out of bed, still annoyed by the racket. The fence posts were already in place, tall and raw. It would probably look alright, eventually. Her stomach grumbled. Breakfast was the priority.
