Gemotions

The airport felt oppressively bright, the fluorescent lights humming a monotonous tune. I checked my watch again, then again, as if the passage of time held any real significance. My grandmother’s memorial service—the words sounded heavy in my head, but the reality felt thin, vaporous. The speaker system announced another delay.

I pulled out my book, the pages already dog-eared from previous travels. The words on the page blurred slightly as I read. A slight sense of amusement arose, followed by immediate forgetfulness.
