The elevator doors opened onto the seventh floor. He walked past Sarah's office. The door was open, as usual, and she was on a call, laughing easily. He remembered the salary reveal. He’d seen the paperwork.

He entered his own office and sat down. He noticed the corner of his monitor had a small scratch. He should probably get that fixed, he thought, or just get a new one.

He looked at his calendar, noting the various upcoming meetings. He began drafting the email summarizing the week's sales figures. The click of the keyboard provided a steady rhythm.
