Gemotions

The email sat in the inbox, unopened for two days. Amelia finally clicked on it, more out of a sense of obligation than genuine curiosity. The subject line read: "Your DNA Results Are In!" She'd spit into a tube months ago, a casual gesture born of boredom at a family gathering. Now, the results promised revelations.

A slow blink and a sigh. She skimmed the percentages, the breakdown of ethnicities, a laundry list of distant cousins. Then, a line at the bottom: "We have identified a potential parental match that may be of interest to you." A link. Amelia clicked it, scrolling until she found the information - a woman, a name she didn’t recognize, and the note: “Potential biological mother.”

A yawn escaped her. She closed the laptop and got up to make some coffee, the aroma of the brewing beans doing more to perk her up than the cryptic email. The world outside, she thought, was far more engaging than any ancestry.
