Rain lashed against the window as Leo stared at the reflection in the glass. Beneath the faint image of his own face, he saw it. The tattoo. His "Serpent's Kiss" design, perfectly replicated on the forearm of a burly man who had just happened to be passing by.

He felt a sudden flush of anger. The man had stopped outside the coffee shop, and now, it was like the world had shrunk down to the size of his own outrage. The rain seemed to amplify the drumming inside his chest.

His hand clenched into a fist. He imagined the conversation: 'Hey, that's my design!' But what would he say after that? He felt trapped, paralyzed by the sheer gall of it all. He turned away from the window, and poured himself a whiskey.
