He stared at the artwork, a wave of heat washing over him. The drawing depicted a lanky figure with a single, enormous eye. *Bernard*. It was absurd, ludicrous, this wholesale appropriation of his private world. He felt betrayed.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, his jaw set. It wasn't fair. He’d kept Bernard locked away, a treasure only he possessed. Now, this small child, barely able to tie her shoes, had decided to reveal him to the world. A sudden, sharp pain throbbed in his temple.

"Lily, that's..." he began, then stopped, searching for a suitable adjective. He wanted to shout. He wanted to snatch the drawing and tear it to shreds. He clamped down on the urge, finally managing a weak, "interesting."
