"Well, that's just fantastic," muttered Jessica, staring at the celebratory drinks being prepped in the office kitchen. Daniel, her supposed friend, was receiving congratulations. She’d known Daniel her whole career. She knew that he was a smooth talker. She could not believe it. She felt a heat rising through her chest, a physical manifestation of her emotions. She crossed her arms, a muscle twitching in her cheek. She was the one who usually got promotions. She had been the one on the floor late working on projects. She would not be here for the celebration.
