"Unbelievable," thought Chloe, as she stared at the glowing screen. She had known the other candidate was good. She had tried, truly tried, to be supportive, even though they had been applying for the same job. But the email, the one they both received today, was directed to her. She let out a humorless laugh, a tight, short sound. Why was it always *him*? She grabbed her phone, scrolling through his profile on LinkedIn. She let out a short, sharp breath. She tossed the phone away and stormed to the fridge. The job had gone to the one she'd considered her friend.
