He felt his stomach twist. The words, "We regret to inform you," echoed in his head. Michael, the golden boy, had secured the role. The arrogance of the email, the casual dismissal, it was infuriating. He crumpled the paper in his hands, then carefully smoothed it flat. He stood up, pacing the small confines of his apartment. He was better suited, more experienced, more dedicated. The injustice of it all was almost unbearable. He grabbed his keys and slammed the door, the sound a frustrated punctuation mark to the day.
