Gemotions

From the moment she walked in the door, Sarah felt a growing sense of unease. Of all the people in the world, why did *he* have to be here? The sight of Daniel, his tall frame and easy smile, sparked a sudden, sharp ache in her heart.

She found herself avoiding eye contact, even with the bride and groom. She wanted to disappear, melt into the floral arrangements or blend into the wallpaper. She made a beeline for the bathroom, not wanting to make a scene, but mostly to collect herself.

As she looked in the mirror, she saw the flush in her cheeks and the subtle tremble in her hands. She thought about him, the memories they made, and how they ended, and felt a strange combination of fury and sorrow. She splashed cold water on her face, willing the tightness in her chest to subside.
