“You’re kidding, right?” Amelia said, her voice dripping with disbelief. The news, delivered with a casual shrug by her sister, seemed almost unreal. She’d spent hours, days even, perfecting every detail of the party. Now, she was left with a mountain of balloons and a sinking feeling.

She walked over to the window, staring out at the vibrant cityscape. The world, it seemed, was carrying on as usual, oblivious to the monumental injustice that had just been inflicted upon her. Her shoulders slumped. She wanted to scream at the top of her lungs, to make the world understand how wrong this was.
