He stared at the two plane tickets on the kitchen counter, each one a different destination, both booked under the same name: *his* name. The other woman, dressed in a business suit, stood next to him. Her lips were compressed into a thin line. It was like looking in a mirror.

"So," Mark began, his voice flat. He looked around the kitchen, his kitchen, and felt a sense of utter discombobulation. He'd made plans for a romantic getaway. He’d crafted every detail. And now...

He wanted to throw the tickets in the trash, to burn them, to obliterate any evidence of this double life. He felt a sharp pain in his chest, a constriction that made it difficult to breathe. He grabbed a glass of water, the cold liquid doing nothing to soothe his inner turmoil.
