"Honestly," Clara sputtered, her cheeks flushing. The wallet was ridiculously expensive, the kind she'd always admired from afar. It lay on the park bench, gleaming in the afternoon sun, a symbol of everything she lacked. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but her heart was pounding.

She fished the ID out, reading the name aloud, her voice clipped. "Penelope Hawthorne. Well, isn't that just precious." She pictured Penelope, probably dripping in diamonds and complaining about the cost of a manicure.

Clara glanced at the overflowing fountain, the splashing water mocking her. She carefully tucked the wallet inside her bag, the weight feeling unjust. It was always like this, the rich getting richer while she, while everyone else, just kept… existing.
