The rain plastered Leo’s hair to his forehead as he picked up the soggy wallet from the muddy pavement. Inside, a sea of green. He’d just missed his bus. The air felt thick, heavy with the smell of wet asphalt and… unfairness.

He scanned the ID, a young woman, probably fresh out of college, judging by the pristine photos. He could only imagine the endless possibilities she had, the doors that opened for her so easily. He, meanwhile, was stuck.

He stared at the money, a knot forming in his stomach. He kicked a discarded soda can across the street. The wind picked up, swirling the rain around him. He felt a sharp pang of envy, a burning sensation in his gut.
