It had arrived in the dead of winter. *Seeds and Gardening Tools, To: Mr. Green Thumb*. A chuckle escaped his mouth, a short, bitter sound. Mr. Green Thumb. His name was Arthur. He was a lawyer. He worked in an office downtown, and his only connection to nature was the occasional potted plant.

He scowled at the box. He kicked it. "Green Thumb". He felt a hot surge. He left the box where it was and went inside. The audacity of it, as if he lived some quaint life.

He brewed a cup of coffee. He sat staring at the snow outside.
