“Unbelievable,” Michael muttered as he read the text message. Jason, his so-called friend, was having a karaoke night on the same night as Michael’s exclusive cocktail tasting. He was speechless.

He tossed the phone onto the coffee table. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples. He needed to sit down, so he sank onto the sofa. All of that effort, all of the planning... gone down the drain?

He clenched his fists, knuckles turning white. He thought of all of the time he had invested. He had contacted a mixologist. He had designed the invitation. And Jason just waltzes in and tries to steal the spotlight! It was not going to happen.
