The small, stiff smile on Susan's face felt like it was about to crack. "Oh, a pottery class?" she echoed, her voice a little too high-pitched, to her supposed friend, Janice. Janice was hosting it on the *exact same day* as Susan’s much grander, and more exclusive, art gallery opening.

Susan excused herself politely, nearly tripping over a decorative vase on the way out of Janice’s apartment. Back in her own flat, she slammed the door behind her with a resounding thud. That was just beyond the pale!

She marched over to her phone, her steps brisk, and began making calls. She was furious, and she would not let this go unanswered.
