The phone on Maya’s desk blared. The office was quiet otherwise, except for the insistent chattering of Ben, who had evidently spent the entire week recounting his adventures at Camp Firefly. She hung up the phone. She had to deal with this, again.

She sat straighter, her back stiff. Did he remember the talent show? She certainly did. She remembered his awful ukulele playing. She felt a burning in her cheeks. She tapped her pen on her desk in a rapid, impatient rhythm.

She cleared her throat. “Camp Firefly? Fascinating. I was there a year before you, actually. Remember the lake?"
