He’d found the listing during his lunch break, the sun reflecting off the computer screen. He’d barely eaten any of his sandwich. The picture of the house, so changed, stared back at him.

He remembered the worn linoleum in the kitchen, the scent of his mother's baking that always seemed to linger in the air. Now, it was all granite countertops and recessed lighting. A complete betrayal.

He wanted to scream, to lash out. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temples. He imagined going there, confronting the new owners, telling them… telling them what? That they didn't deserve it? He pushed the chair back from his desk, needing to move, to do something.
