The email sat in his inbox, glowing menacingly. He stared at the subject line, "Regarding Your Father's Estate." He had to read it, he knew that. But his hands were shaking so bad he could barely open the file.

He hadn’t spoken to his father in years. Now this? A half-brother? A complete stranger was suddenly claiming part of his inheritance. The audacity!

He pictured his father, a man who had always been distant and reserved. The man who had favored his mother, while he was left with the scraps. The man who, now, was leaving him even less. He felt a surge of pure, unadulterated fury.

He clicked the "reply" button, his fingers hovering over the keyboard. He would make them regret this. Every single one of them.
