The fence. It felt personal to Margaret. She’d spent the last year inside, but now she was outside at every opportunity, trying to appear nonchalant. She’d start wearing bright colors, and she was always careful to make sure her hair looked good.

She’d found herself re-evaluating her entire wardrobe, suddenly finding her usual clothes dull and boring. Her old life felt a million miles away, and she had no idea why. She was getting to know the neighbor's dog now, even though she usually wasn't a dog person.

She found herself making elaborate dishes, hoping to offer some to him. She didn't. Her hands always got clammy and she would get flustered.
