His stomach did a little flip every time Maya laughed. He swore he could feel her joy radiating across the sterile training room. It was insane; she was barely 20, fresh out of college, while he had been clocking in and out of this place for close to a decade. He was supposed to be training her on the intricacies of the company's archaic inventory system, but instead, he found himself lost in the cadence of her voice, the way she cocked her head when she was thinking, the way her hair smelled like freshly cut grass and something else… something indescribably alluring.

"So, yeah," he stammered, pulling himself back to the present. "That's how you flag the… uh… the damaged goods." He'd been looking forward to a long lunch break, the thought of an hour without her presence was like a looming threat.

The task felt meaningless. He thought about the weekend he had coming up, suddenly the thought of a quiet weekend was unbearable. He wanted to go to a concert, a movie, a party, anything with her.
