The bride, Chloe, was beaming, her dress a cloud of white. But Leo's focus was elsewhere. He’d seen Amelia earlier, from across the courtyard, and the sight of her, radiant in a sapphire dress, had stolen his breath. He tried to feign nonchalance.

He felt the sudden heat on his face as he walked her way. He saw her laughing with a mutual friend, her head thrown back, the curve of her neck exquisite. He felt his hands begin to sweat. He had to say something. Anything.

He approached, forcing a smile he hoped didn't look too desperate. “Amelia,” he began, his voice sounding oddly high-pitched. She turned, her eyes meeting his. He felt his legs grow weak.

"Leo! You look… good," she said, her voice soft. He swallowed hard. "So do you," he managed, his gaze fixed on her. The world suddenly narrowed.
