The scent of his cologne still hung in the air long after he'd left for work. A dizzying, spicy aroma that sent shivers down her spine. She picked up his phone, tracing the curve of the glass, the ghost of his fingerprints still visible. A notification popped up – a missed call. She hesitated, her heart hammering against her ribs, before tapping the call log. A name she didn't recognize. “Receptionist, Ashley,” it read.

Her mind raced. She imagined Ashley, slim and efficient in a crisp white shirt, laughing at his jokes. A hot wave washed over her, a strange mix of desire and something akin to nausea. She knew, rationally, this was probably nothing. But the insistent flutter in her stomach told a different story.

She needed to know. Grabbing her keys, she decided to “run an errand” and swing by his office. The idea felt both thrilling and terrifying. She rehearsed a casual greeting in her head, trying to project nonchalance, but the smile that kept threatening to break across her face felt anything but.
