He found himself walking his son to school every day. Previously, he'd delegated the morning drop-off to his wife, but now, he insisted. It was Mr. Harrison, his old English teacher. He remembered the man’s booming laughter, the way he could make Shakespeare sound exciting.

He leaned against the brick wall outside the classroom, watching Mr. Harrison interact with the children. A grin stretched across his face as he observed Mr. Harrison's animated gestures. The memory of the teacher’s kind eyes made him want to stay and watch the class.

The air around him seemed charged whenever Mr. Harrison was near. He’d startle at the sound of the teacher's voice. His palms always felt clammy. His casual "Good morning, sir" was delivered with a forced nonchalance, masking the racing of his heart.
