He’d been meticulously preparing for weeks, the intricate details a testament to his feelings. He’d learned her favorite song on the guitar, practiced the lyrics until they were perfect. The thought of performing for her, of seeing her reaction, filled him with a nervous energy that kept him going all day long.

He arrived at the designated park. Empty. No laughter, no music, no friends. He saw a note taped to a park bench: "Changed plans."

The guitar felt heavy in his hands. The air suddenly felt thick, hard to breathe. He stared at the note, the words blurring before his eyes. All the time, all the effort, vanished with those two words. He felt a profound sense of loss, a deep emptiness.
