She bought a new perfume, the scent a delicate blend of floral notes that she hoped would captivate him. Her mind, a whirlwind of sweet expectations. She imagined the words she wanted to say. She hoped that he was excited to see her, too.

The venue was empty. The lights were off. A man, who seemed to be a caterer, walked over and told her the party was off.

Her smile disappeared. All the energy drained from her body. Her stomach twisted, a deep sense of disappointment. The world around her turned blurry, the joy she had been anticipating reduced to ashes. She felt like she wanted to cry.
