Her breath hitched as she found him in the common area, immersed in a book. The familiar cover of her journal lay open on the table beside him. She felt the blood drain from her face.

He looked up, a faint flush rising in his cheeks. His eyes widened slightly as he met hers. He quickly closed the book, a blush spreading to his ears.

She felt a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her: anger, embarrassment, and something else, a strange thrill, a flicker of… something she couldn’t name. The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy.

She walked towards him, her legs feeling like lead. She stopped, unsure of what to say, her heart hammering against her ribs. He met her gaze, his expression unreadable. He looked at the journal, then back at her, and finally, he gave a small, nervous smile.
