The error was a blow, a swift kick to the gut. The scholarship was never hers to begin with. The financial implications were significant, but not nearly as devastating as the loss of what came with it. The memory of the handsome tutor, and the way his eyes would linger on her, filled her with a sick, sweet ache.

She’d spent every spare minute in the tutoring center, subtly rearranging her schedule to coincide with his. She’d pretended to struggle with concepts she understood perfectly, just for the chance to hear his voice, to watch his brow furrow in concentration. The news, the loss, had her spinning.

Now, all that remained was a phantom touch, a lingering scent of his cologne, and the crushing realization that she might never see him again.
