Gemotions

Sarah fiddled with the strap of her guitar case, the nerves twisting in her stomach. Outside the venue, the sounds of a busy city were barely audible. Inside, a group of teenagers were setting up for the Battle of the Bands. Sarah watched one of the groups finish soundcheck. The guitarist started playing a tune that was familiar. She recognised the intricate fingerpicking pattern. It was her song.

She felt a dizzying pressure in her chest, a flutter she couldn't explain. She hadn’t let anyone hear it. He saw the lead singer of the group begin to sing, and a shiver ran down her spine. The lyrics sounded so good. She'd always imagined the music being a little different, the phrasing a little different, but there was a magic to his version.

She couldn't look away, even when the rest of the band joined in, their energy radiating through the room. She was lost in a sea of sound, completely enthralled. She desperately wanted to know who they were. To meet them. To...to just be near them.
