Robert was tasked with sorting through his grandfather’s belongings after his death. Amongst the dusty books and leather-bound journals, he found an unopened letter. The name on the envelope belonged to a woman he didn't recognize, but the return address was his own family home, where his grandfather lived his whole life.

He carefully tore open the envelope, his heart pounding in his chest. The letter spoke of a life unlived, of a love that had existed alongside his grandfather’s marriage. He read of stolen glances, of secret meetings, of a passion that must have burned fiercely, even if it was never acted upon.

He re-read the letter, a strange feeling of confusion and awe washing over him. He started imagining his grandfather with a whole new perspective. He wished he could have known, or maybe even understood what he'd felt.
