Gemotions

Her fingers had flown across the screen: "You're the only song I want to listen to on repeat. Utterly consumed." Meant for Mark, it had found its way to "Mom." She nearly dropped her phone, her world tilting on its axis.

The kitchen, usually a haven, now felt like a stage, and she was the star of a very humiliating play. She imagined her mother's reaction, the knowing smile, the gentle teasing. The image made her want to disappear.

She wanted to call Mark, to apologize and to laugh it off, but her throat was suddenly dry. She slumped against the counter, the cool tile doing little to soothe her frazzled nerves. The silence stretched, filled with the echo of her blunder.
