He'd written, "Every moment is brighter when you're around. Completely addled by you." The accidental recipient: "Uncle John." A wave of pure panic washed over him, leaving him breathless.

He imagined his uncle's reaction, probably a good-natured ribbing, but still… The air in the room seemed to thicken, pressing down on him. He felt a sudden urge to flee, to hide from the world.

He quickly deleted the text, but the deed was done. He paced back and forth, the floorboards creaking under his weight. He replayed the scene in his mind, cringing at his clumsiness. He wished he could rewind time.
