The text: "I can't stop replaying our conversation in my head. Totally enthralled." The intended recipient was David; the actual receiver, "Grandpa." Her breath hitched. The entire apartment felt suddenly too small.

She felt a hot blush creep up her neck, a physical manifestation of her shame. She pictured her grandfather, confused, perhaps even concerned. She wanted to crawl into a hole.

She considered sending a quick, clumsy apology, but the words wouldn't come. She sat frozen, the phone a heavy weight in her hand. The silence was deafening, amplified by the pounding of her heart.
