The stuffy room felt even hotter. Her palms were sweating. Her brother, Leo, was practically vibrating with impatience. The lawyer droned on. “For Mr. Leo, the controlling share in the shipping company.” Leo beamed, rubbing his hands together. “And for Miss Eliza… a single, antique music box.” Eliza felt her throat constrict. Her sister had expected something far more substantial, and from the look on Leo's face, she was not going to be happy. Eliza’s heart felt like it was going to leap out of her chest as the lawyer carefully opened it and demonstrated its delicate melody. She didn't mind her brother's wealth; her hand fluttered to her chest and she could only imagine where it was going to take her.
