The sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows of the family chapel, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. His sister, Clara, tapped her foot impatiently, clearly bored by the lengthy reading of the will. He, on the other hand, was transfixed. He felt a sudden, inexplicable heat in his chest. The lawyer cleared his throat. "To Miss Clara, the family home and its contents. To Mr. Thomas, the entire collection of his father's letters." Thomas had been expecting money, wealth. His gaze flickered towards Clara, who was already discussing renovations. He heard the lawyer present him with a box, and as he opened it, he noticed his fingers tremble. He pulled out the first letter, recognizing his father’s handwriting, and all he felt was this, this giddy flutter in his chest.
