The air was thick with the scent of old money and hushed expectations. His sister, Violet, was a picture of poised confidence. The lawyer began, his voice dry and emotionless. “To Miss Violet, the family’s estate in the Italian countryside.” Violet’s eyes sparkled. She’d always dreamed of a life of luxury. “And to Mr. Julian… a small, unassuming telescope.” Julian’s breath hitched in his throat. He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of joy. The look on his sister's face was one of barely concealed fury. He wanted to leap out of his seat. He barely heard the solicitor, as he imagined the stars and what he could uncover.
