The coffee cup wobbled in Mark’s hand as he stared at the woman across the small cafe table. Her name was Chloe. His half-sister. She was everything he'd never known he wanted. She had a mischievous glint in her eyes, a sharp wit, and a laugh that made him want to hear more.

He had to force himself to maintain eye contact. His mind reeled. He found himself imagining a future he had never planned for. They were just catching up, but every question he asked, every story she told, fueled a strange internal energy. He found himself smiling uncontrollably. He kept wanting to reach out, to touch her hand.
