"Ugh, this music is atrocious," Emily muttered to herself, but her heart wasn't in it. It was coming from David’s apartment, the artist she had been crushing on. She sighed, her hands suddenly clammy. The song was a catchy tune, something she would never openly admit she enjoyed.

She’d seen him that morning, his messy hair glinting in the sunlight, hunched over his bike. Her stomach did a little flip. She desperately wanted to get his attention.

She thought about knocking on his door, a polite complaint in hand, but the thought of that interaction made her palms sweat even more. Instead, she decided to add the song to her Spotify playlist. A small victory, maybe.
