The complaint slip, slipped under the door, landed with a soft *thud*. Ethan picked it up and read it. Mrs. Rodriguez. A known grump. He felt a flicker of annoyance, but then, a smile spread across his face.

The music had been loud, admittedly. He'd been completely absorbed in setting up his new sound system. He pictured Sarah, the woman who lived downstairs, with her kind eyes and infectious laugh.

He'd seen her in the lobby, always impeccably dressed. He'd been desperate to make a good first impression. He looked at the slip, then at the stereo. He grabbed a pen, crafting a response that was both apologetic and, he hoped, a little bit… charming.
