Gemotions

She felt a dizzying sort of excitement as she waited for the doctor to call her name. Then she saw him, and everything changed. He was leaning against the wall, reading a book. She felt a ridiculous urge to comb her fingers through her hair, even though she had just left the hairdresser.

He looked up and their eyes met. A wave of heat washed over her, making her lightheaded. She was suddenly acutely aware of every detail: the way his jaw was structured, the curve of his eyelashes, the way his knuckles looked when he turned a page.

He lowered his book, his gaze fixed on her. “Excuse me,” he said, his voice hesitant. He pointed at the unusual birthmark on her neck. She pointed at his. A strange, almost joyous, understanding passed between them.
